Our Pastor & Family
A lifelong Tulsan with deep pride in the Black community, Pastor Jamaal Dyer has dedicated his life to serving both his church and his city. His commitment to education and empowerment is evident in his extensive experience, from his studies at historically Black institutions like the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications with an emphasis in Broadcast Journalism) and Langston University (Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling) to his current role as Student Success Coordinator at Tulsa Public Schools.
For twelve years, Pastor Dyer has been a familiar face in community organizations and on boards tackling crucial issues like law enforcement and community relations, from the iconic Greenwood District ("Black Wall Street") to the Tulsa Juneteenth Festival. He is a recognized advocate and trailblazer, building bridges and inspiring positive change. At Tulsa Public Schools, he works closely with secondary schools to ensure every student achieves success, a mission driven by his deep understanding of the impact positive influences can have on young men. He brings this understanding to life through CHAMPS – Tulsa Male Mentoring Program, empowering young men in grades 6 through 12.
In 2019, Pastor Dyer was appointed Senior Pastor of Friendship Church, where his leadership has ignited both spiritual and physical growth. His powerful sermons and innovative vision have seen the church flourish, from renovating buildings to establishing a virtual worship service that expands the reach of their message. They've even secured land to accommodate their thriving ministry, and Pastor Dyer recently launched the We SOAR tutoring program, equipping students in grades 1st through 8th with stronger reading and math skills.
Affectionately known as "Pastor J," he approaches everything with a heart devoted to Christ, his church, and his community. Living by the creed "If I can help somebody, as I pass along, then my living shall not be in vain," his dedication extends far beyond the church walls. Outside his service, he cherishes the gifts of his wife Kim and their three children, Gracelyn, Jamaal II (J2), and Gianna.
